  an awkward amount of white space below the first box... (between photo previews and the "election coverage" panel)- feels empty

  I like being able to read the blurb for the story and get the gist of it without actually having to click on anything. Usually you can't tell by just the picture if the story is going to be interesting

  The 5-stories that appear as a slideshow on the front page is a great idea, but they move too fast
