There is, obviously, the famous Arlington Cemetery with its Tomb of the Unknowns, built on Civil War Confederate general Robert E. Lee’s former property. The lovely sites honoring those who sacrificed their lives to better this nation offers emotive sights such as the changing of guards at the Tomb and occasional 21-gun salutes. Also, the Arlington House, General Lee’s former residence, is an interesting place to tour. About one block to the north is the Iwo Jima Memorial, a statue of soaked soldiers hoisting a flying American flag, a tribute to the U.S. Marines who fought in WWII. Those who are interested in the history of women in wars should definitely stop by the Women in Military Services Memorial. Some other visually interesting sites include JFK’s grave, the Memorial Amphitheatre and especially the striking Netherlands Carillon.
Across the bridge to the east o the station lies the Lady Bird Johnson Park, which holds the Lyndon B. Johnson Memorial Grove and has a pleasant bike trail to Mt.
