The Japanese Club is dedicated to the exploration of Japanese culture through various mediums and activities. The club was formed originally in response to the largely popular anime cartoons which are primarily Japanese. Since then, it has transformed into a language, history and culture club.
The club's recent growth is largely due to sponsor Kenneth Seat who took over the club two years ago. Seat lived Japan for 20 years attending high school in Tokyo and living in Fukuoka City, is well versed in both Japanese society and language and is currently teaching Japanese 1.
The 15 member (and growing) club meets near the Physical Education hallway to play various Japanese language games and watch videos that pertain to both pop-culture and Japanese history. Although the club is centered on culture, it is far from a classroom lesson on Japan, student have brought in assorted Japanese foods for others to taste and made a trip to Washington D.C. for the Cherry Tree Festival last year. "I want the kids to have fun, they organize the club themselves I just make sure they don't do anything crazy," said Seat. The club welcomes all who are interested in learning about the intricacies of Japanese culture and membership requires no previous knowledge in any aspects of Japan.
If interested in joining the Japanese Club, please contact Kenneth Seat during club hours.
