On a Thursday afternoon, as every other student prepares for a three day weekend, a group of students stays in Room 264 to make posters and banners promoting their club and the values of their religion. After finishing the posters, the Christian Club remains at school, gathered together in prayer.
The club meets every Thursday to pray, worship God and practice Christian beliefs. Depending on the meeting, they play games, listen to a speaker, host open discussions, or invite friends to hear a message. Every Thursday morning, they gather at the flagpole to pray.
This year, the club plans to volunteer at various local soup kitchens and at homeless shelters. They will be organizing a series of different community service trips in the Washington, D.C. area.
Sponsor Corrie Weisensee encourages all interested Blazers to join the club. "We invite anyone who is interested in Christianity, even just for the learning experience," says Weisensee. "We're open to anyone visiting, regardless of religion or beliefs. If anyone has questions, or just wants to see what we're about, it's an open club," says junior Caitlin O'Donnell. "Christian Club is a safe, open place for students of Christian faith to gather and encourage one another," she explains.
