Blair offers a variety of art classes that provide students with opportunities to explore their artistic talents. But for those students who wish to pursue art on a higher level, there is the National Arts Honor Society (NAHS). To be nominated and inducted into NAHS, students must first be members of Fine Arts @ Blair.
"The NAHS program is specifically for high school students grades 10 to 12, for the purpose of inspiring and recognizing those students who have shown an outstanding ability in art," says sponsor Janet Berry. Among other activities this year, members will meet every week to paint a 30'' by 40'' canvas, which may be selected for exhibition at John Hopkins University. NAHS allows for students to express their artistic talents with their peers.
The club is sponsored by the National Art Education Association (NAEA). Members are eligible for awards by the NAEA such as the NAEA Standards Award and the Rising Star Secondary Recognition award. Senior members are eligible for multiple scholarships, such as the Charles M. Robertson Memorial Scholarship to Pratt's School of Art and Design in New York. Based on their personal achievement, sponsors become eligible for multiple grant programs by the NAEA.
If interested in joining the National Arts Honor Society, please contact Janet Berry or junior Debattma Sen.
