Diehard fans of Kanye West’s previous work in albums "The College Dropout," "Late Registration," and "Graduation" might just hate the first song released from his newest album "808s and Heartbreaks." West, known for his clever rhymes and self boasting swagger, strayed from the rap genre that made him famous by releasing "Love Lockdown," a synthesized pop song which features West singing, not rapping.

This song, though a dramatic change in style for West, offers a characteristically catchy and unique beat. Never before has Kanye altered his vocals with an Auto-Tune, a device that gives the artist a robotic tone and has been used before by musicians such as T-Pain.

If fans can get past the fact that, in this song, West does not talk about himself or his hometown of Chicago, they might enjoy the fresh, new sound, even though the song is very repetitive. Open for interpretation, “Love Lockdown” might be about West’s fading interest in a partner that he formerly loved. Let’s just hope that after listening to “Love Lockdown,” fans do not feel the same waning affection towards West.
