"Womanizer," the lead single of Britney Spears's new album "Circus," isn't the bubble-gum pop brand of earlier hits like "Oops!...I Did It Again" but continues along the lines of "Blackout" with dark synths and a pounding backbeat. "Womanizer" is comparable to "Stronger," with the same use of instrumental and mechanical sounds that kick off the song, making it perfect for the dance floor. The chorus, however, is almost unbearably tiresome, as it mainly consists of one word – "womanizer." "Gimme More," the first single of "Blackout," had a repetitive chorus as well, but it was bolstered by rich instrumentals, a hypnotic undercurrent and well-written lyrics that ensured the rest of the piece wasn't just filler. "Gimme More" also featured Spears' voice at its best – silky, raw and powerful. In "Womanizer," the sheer repetition makes Spears sound annoyingly nasal and the verses are surprisingly flat and unmemorable. But even with these flaws, "Womanizer" is destined to become a hit in clubs; it is catchy, easy to listen to and boasts a strong beat that screams female empowerment.
