Christina Aguilera's new hit single, "Keeps Gettin' Better," infuses a catchy, electronic- pop beat with her traditionally strong vocals to make a clear statement about female empowerment. The song, released to promote her new album, "Keeps Gettin' Better: A Decade of Hits," takes a turn from the jazzy, soul-inspired tracks of "Back to Basics," her last album, released in 2006. Aguilera's stunning vocals are almost wasted on this heavily synthesized track; the incredible range and sultry undertones to her voice in "Back to Basics" left many listeners hoping for a revival of the 20s jazz era sound. However, the irresistible techno-funk beat introduced by producer Linda Perry and the raw power of Aguilera's voice salvages this otherwise disappointing release. Her voice practically radiates confidence as she belts out the same brassy refrain: "Some days I'm a super bitch/up to my old tricks/but it won't last forever/next day I'm your super girl/out to save the world/and it keeps getting better." But for listeners familiar with the dynamic force of Aguilera's voice in "Ain't No Other Man," "Keeps Gettin' Better" is no comparison.
