In his hit song, Archuleta's dorky innocence along with his syrupy, riveting voice charms anyone with a heart. While "Crush" enters with a catchy rhythm, Archuleta starts rather bland and slow, worrying the listener if Archuleta will ever stretch his vocal cords. But "Crush" offers a surprising twist; Archuleta catches tempo and breaks out from the hushed tone like sudden rushes of stormy waves. The unexpected transition is compelling and brings the soul to the melody. The lyrics, touching on the possibility of an unrequited crush, when coupled with the contemporary beat, reaches out to a young crowd. Although the lyrics could be labeled bubblegum pop, Archuleta's mature voice and the R&B beats, render "Crush" poignant - not plastic. Archuleta is bound to receive accolades for his song "Crush", but, most importantly, the girl that Archuleta croons about in the song is incredibly lucky.
