John Legend says that he’s "ready to go" on his new pop single "Green Light" off his latest album "Evolver." But with inadequately dry lyrics and a plain melody, it’s hard to agree with Legend when he says he’s "winning the race." Legend sings very blandly and offers no creative lyrics. He pleads for the chance to dance with a girl just one night, yet as the song drones on, it seems like Legend is fighting a losing battle. Rapper Andre 3000 attempts to combine his rapping prowess with his singing skills but, ultimately, ends up sounding offbeat and out of place.

Legend had a difficult time creating a lyrical theme in his new album, as he told MTV, and “Green Light” epitomizes this. The song sounds like Legend has trouble deciding his musical style. “Green Light” remains in the void between two genres: too upbeat and shallow to be soul music, not catchy enough to be a pop hit.
