Jim Jones ft. Ron Browz and Juelz Santana - Pop Champagne

Genre: Hip-hopArtist Website: http://www.capostatus.com
Rating:
Harlem rapper Jim Jones, self-described "capo" of rap crew Dipset, rose to prominence with the release of his 2005 hit single "We Fly High," which had everyone from high school students to professional athletes taking jump shots. With the release of "Pop Champagne," Jones unites with fellow Dipset rapper Juelz Santana and industry newcomer Ron Browz for a shot at continued success. Unfortunately, this latest release is a cheap, flat re-hashing of sad industry clichés.
Browz, who produced the song's instrumentals and sings the hook as well as his own verse, is easily the worst part of the track. His singing is monotonous and slightly off-key despite heavy Auto-Tuning. While both rappers' flows are much more listenable than Browz's warbling, neither of them have anything to say beyond the fact that they "pop champagne." While this material would be perfectly suitable for club-centered tracks, Browz's stripped-down, synth-driven production emphasizes this simplistic material. For Jones, this song isn't even a rimshot.
