Blair's crew team participated in America's largest regatta for the first time this past weekend on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.

Crew rows at Philadelphia Regatta

Last Thursday and Friday, Blair's crew team competed in the largest American high school regatta of the year, on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. Although any team with U.S. Rowing membership can participate, this was the first time the Blair entered. Girls Junior 4+ placed 31st out of 61 teams, Girls Senior 8+ finished 21st out of 36 teams and Boys Senior 4+ beat nine other teams.

MCPS plans B-CC middle school

On Jan. 25, the Site Selection Advisory Committee met at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School to discuss the location of a new middle school in the B-CC cluster.

Blair works to improve SAT performance

Blair is joining the larger Montgomery County Public School initiative to increase the percentage of students taking the SAT Reasoning Test, as well as the mean SAT combined score of all students.

National Honor Society undergoes changes

This year, Blair's National Honor Society (NHS) implemented major changes pertaining to both its application process and club requirements. NHS began admitting sophomores this school year, raised the required number of Student Service Learning (SSL) hours earned in the program and became an official member of the National Chapter of Honor Societies.

Three elementary schools reopen after renovations

On Jan. 4, three local elementary schools – Cannon Road, Garret Parks and Seven Locks – reopened after undergoing renovations for the past year and a half. The $50 million project, funded by Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), was completed on schedule and all three schools reopened on time.

Pepco fined $1 million for unreliable service

The Maryland PSC fined Pepco $1 million for failing to uphold cost-effective electrical maintenance and restore power in a timely manner.

'Merica, the beautiful

On May 8, we became less of a country as North Carolina passed a constitutional ban on gay marriage. Instead of America, we should drop the "A" and call ourselves "'Merica," a crude and tacky denomination of our country that better reflects dogmatic beliefs getting more weight than public opinion. With North Carolina's amendment, we give one more reason why European nations such as France, Portugal and Sweden think we're dumb.

Everyone has moments of their lives that they are not proud of. For Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, some of those moments are coming back to haunt him on the campaign trail.

EMS fee not worth the money

When people already have to pay for rising medical bills and ridiculous amounts of medication, adding another fee for emergency services would seem to be excessive. However, on April 17, the Montgomery County Council reintroduced executive Isiah Leggett's proposed legislation to establish an ambulance fee. He asked the Council to reconsider the fee because of state actions that have intruded on Council taxing authority and a possibility of a shift in half of teacher pension costs.
