snoWatch

by KC Costanzo, Page Editor
The groundhog saw his shadow on the 2nd signaling six more weeks of winter. Today the weather people apparently sat up and took notice because they’re warning us of possible snow over the next two days. The last several editions of snoWatch have ended in disappointment, but it looks like this time around the snow is ready to fall.

Here’s what the National Weather Service and Weather.com are predicting:

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning until 4 pm on Friday

Friday

» Snow from 12 am – 11 am

» Near 100% chance of snow in the morning

» Accumulation: 4 - 8 inches

» High: 35°

» Low: 10°

SCOCE Rating: 12.6225
What is SCOCE?

The Silver Chips Online Weather Team predicts: 90% chance of cancellation on Friday. Get ready to sleep in because it doesn't look like much of Montgomery County will be out on the road on Friday. Hey, but we could be wrong (read: we aren't preaching you should skip your homework).

Check the Silver Chips Online weather page for additional information, including a link to real-time weather conditions at Blair.

MCPS weather policies can be found on their emergency information page.

snoWatch discussion: Do you believe the groundhog seeing his shadow is actually a sign of six more weeks of winter?

Of course, there will be six more weeks of winter if the groundhog sees its shadow. If he doesn't, winter end in only a month and a half.

I say it does mean six more weeks of winter, but why stop there? Obviously kids want days of from school and snow on the ground. So why stop at six week?
I proposed that groundhog's day be every six weeks throughout the year (besides the summer) and trick him into thinking that it is winter all the time, so that the snowdays won't end in March.

KC- the w team predicts a (what?) % chance of a late opening and a (what?) % chance of a closing Feb 7.

But more snow also means more time spent in school in June. We don't have any snowdays left. I say, endless two-hour delays!

Why must we bother a poor little ground hog that doesn't even know why these cameras and people are bothering him when he's chillin' in his little hole?? I say we just CHILL with the groundhog and just stick our hand out the window everyday...OR we could just step outside everyday to know the weather.
