Actually, 'ksher, there are many different things that non-magnet and non-cap students can do to shine. There are always acts like International Night, or those coffee houses that you can do!

'ksher, stop complaining and DO something. Find a Mag. Arts Night group to join. Non-magnets are allowed you know. Put together an idea for an event and present it to the SGA. At the very least, stop whining.

SGR Spectacular is by and for the entire student body at Blair, the only limits to acts being taste and enrollment here. go do that and stop complaining that magnet people have skills.

I am tired of magnets and I am glad to be graduating. The only reason that there is 10 million stories on chips online about magnet arts night is because it is run by magnets. Not sayin that the other stories arent good because they are.

why dont people who arent in magenet have an arts night? just because you arent in magnet doesnt mean u arent talented!! we need a night too! *sniff sniff*

yeah, it's sad that there is a night just for magnet kids. what kind of crap is that??? Magnets are seperated from most of the school, and they want to be seperated even more. What kind of mindset is that???

Yeah "Jeane there are those cofee houses, but why not more events at school that are publicized for EVERYONE TO PARTICIPATE IN!!! There was SGR, but i do not think people thought it was that legitamate. And why should non cap/magnet people go find other places to perform when they can perform at their own school just like cap/magnet students do. Think about that!

As I recall, the point of MAN wasn't to be all like "Magnets are the best!" or anything. It was to show that we can do things other than math and science and computers, to give a window to another side of our lives. If there aren't enough opportunites for non-Magnets to show off, this is a big problem -- but it's a problem with the Blair community, not with Magnet Arts Night.

I think there are some misunderstandings about what Magnet Arts Night is. It's not *just* a talent show, it's not exclusive to *just* magnet kids because we feel like it. The tradition of Magnet Arts Night was started years ago when a Magnet scholarship was created in memory of a former Magnet teacher. A group of students decided to have a fundraiser for this scholarship fund. They decided they should hold a talent show to raise money. One reason that the acts must have half Magnet students in them is that the event is primarily a Magnet event, to raise funds for a Magnet scholarship. The other reason, though, is simply lack of space. If you didn't realize it, Magnet Arts Night is extremely competitive. There were over 60 acts auditioning over a period of two weeks for a show that had under 15 acts in it. Sorry to say, the SGR spectacular didn't draw the same number of acts, nor did it draw as many people to the audience (Magnet Arts Night packed out the auditorium, there was standing room only in the back). And the Magnet makes up less than 15% of the student population. So taking away the half-magnet requirement would put a weighty burden on the Magnet Arts Night staff, having to audition hundreds of acts for a one-night performance. The reason that Magnet Arts Night draws so much attention over other talent shows is that it's very organized and very professional, and for that reason lots of people are drawn to it. If we had a group of people as organized, dedicated, and hard-working as the Magnet Arts Night staff who wanted to plan a whole-school talent show at the same caliber as Magnet Arts Night, it would probably turn out to be a better show. I just haven't seen anyone put in as much effort.
