Class of 2004 graduates
Six hundred forty three seniors graduated from Blair at the Jericho City of Praise on June 3. Parents, teachers, alumni and current students gathered to celebrate the commencement of the Class of 2004.
The nearly four-hour event began with a rendition of On a Hymn Song of Philip Bliss by Blair’s symphonic band. They also played Pomp and Circumstance (March No. 1) for the processional.
The occasion included speeches from the senior class advisor Norman Stant and senior class officers President Jessica Favin and Vice President Ayodele Cole. Both discussed the meaning of graduation and the importance of the knowledge that each graduate has acquired at Blair.
Guest speaker Marcus Johnson discussed the value of being a Blazer and how difficult life is after high school, but Johnson assured students that Blazers would not have that many problems living their lives to the fullest. “I thought he had great stage presence and he talked about issues that people in Blair face," said sophomore Gannett Cassidy, who attended the ceremony.
Principal Philip Gainous and Community Superintendent Dr. Gregory E. Thornton gave remarks and presented the diplomas to the Class of 2004.
Some seniors were especially elated at the realization of their graduation. Michael Hayes gave Mr. Gainous a great hug, and Peter Musto bowed to Gainous.
After the diplomas were distributed, treasurer Isatta Mansaray gave thanks to all of the parents, relatives and staff that attended the ceremony. Mansaray then led the turning of the tassels.
