Maryland Junior Senate Seat Candidates

Incumbent: Barbara Ann Mikulski (D)

Barbara Mikulski has held the Maryland Junior Seat in the U.S. Senate since 1987 and has served in Congress since 1977. The incumbent senator currently resides in Baltimore. She received a B.A. from Mount Saint Mary's College and a Masters of Social Work from the University of Maryland. Mikulski supported the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and has been a national leader on Veterans' and women's health issues. The senator has fought to protect American jobs from outsourcing and supports affirmative action programs. She currently serves on the Senate Appropriations committee and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

Challenger: E.J. Pipkin (R)

E.J. Pipkin grew up in Dundalk, Maryland. He attended Salisbury University and Roanoke College and later earned an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia. Pipkin was elected to the Maryland Senate in 2002 where he worked to improve education and protect the Chesapeake Bay. He favors improving national security, cutting taxes, curbing government spending and making prescription drugs more affordable. He supports the Federal Marriage Amendment and was recently endorsed by the National Rifle Association. Pipkin currently resides in Queen Anne's County.

    it would be awesome if you guys could cover the other candidates as well. i know it usually comes down to R v. D but there are two other candidates on the ballot-- Maria Llwine and Thomas Trump. this goes for the other races as well. thanks so much for helping me out as i do out-of-state research for voting absentee from college.
