JV boys' soccer beats Watkins Mill 5-0

OCT. 6, BLAZER STADIUM-

The JV boys' soccer team continued its dominating season today, winning 5-0 over Watkins Mill High School. This game brought Blair's season record to 6-0. With four goals in the first half, the Blazers set the tone for a game in which they excelled in every aspect of play. They showed great team soccer in their accurate passing, superior shooting, and exceptional transition play.

The passing today was the main reason for Blair's offensive production as well as its defensive shut out. The effectiveness of their passing led to limited turnovers, and Blair was able to play most of the game on Watkins Mill's side of the pitch. This made the game easy for the defense, which was barely tested until the end of the second half.

Today, although Blair only took a few, each shot was accurate, and Blair took a 4-0 lead by half time. Forward Prince Momo scored two goals, one in both the eighth and 22nd minute. Also, Jesse Ruf and Nebiat Mekonnen scored in the sixteenth and twentieth minute respectively. All four of these goals came in the first 25 minutes, as Blair controlled the tempo and wore out the Watkins Mill team.

Blair's transition play was a highlight of team soccer. The defense was able to quickly pass the ball up-field and start an attack soon after defending its own goal. This ability to move from a defensive to offensive stance gave Blair several breakaways and offensive opportunities.

Blair's defense played superbly even without star Alec McLean, who was recently promoted to the Varsity Squad. They prevented Watkins Mill from shooting many shots, and most of their attempts were from difficult angles and distant areas of the field.

Throughout the season, Blair has outscored their opponents 33-0, averaging over five goals a game while shutting out every opponent. This team has continued to improve from game to game, and seems poised for a successful playoff run this fall.
