School vandalized with graffiti

by Nora Toiv, Page Editor
The Colesville side of the school building was vandalized with graffiti over the weekend.

School officials found the graffiti when they opened the school on Monday morning, according to building services manager James Brown. There was an announcement on Monday of a $100 reward for information about the vandalism. According to Roxanne Fus, who makes the announcements in the afternoon, the announcement was submitted by Mr. Gainous’s secretary.

Brown said that they do not have the chemicals to clean the graffiti. The materials needed to clean the wall include a type of acidic substance and power washing. “We have to send a work order," said Brown.

The graffiti causes problems for the whole maintenance staff. “[The graffiti] makes more work for us because we’re going to have to try and cover it up," said Brown. Brown also worries about the appearance of the school from Colesville. “[The graffiti] makes the school look ugly," he said.

I thought Blair was different in regards to respect of school property. I guess I was wrong.

The girls bathroom on the left side of either the second or third floor has marker ALL over it. It is distgusting how new this school is and how crapped up it is already. There are so many issues already for funding with down-county schools, and how we get no respect. This just makes us look worse. Why would you sacrifice a multi-million dollar building built for our benifet just to put ur name on a wall?

Wow -- good story -- bad news. I remember arriving the morning after the vandalism. Those of us who saw it were disheartened. Why do people do this? Is it a power issue? The powerless want to make a statement? I'm not trying to rationalize it -- just understand it a little better. If we created a place for graffitti would they use it? I don't know.

It's amazing how careless some people can be. There are students all over the WORLD that would KILL to have our facility as a school, and here is someone who could care less vandilizing it! It makes me irate! It really does! No wonder adults say adolescants vandalize things; a small portion of us do! And then the same people that ruin everything turn around and whine at adults when they try to discipline them. If you are immature, thoughtless, careless, and mean enough to write grafitti on a 5 year young school, then you NEED to be disciplined!
