Promised Renaissance IDs on their way

by Nora Toiv, Page Editor
The IDs promised by the Renaissance Program to students back in December have arrived and stars are being punched into the number one on the cards to represent students’ academic achievement for first quarter.

There has been a very long delay in the processing of the IDs and Renaissance head and Blair social studies teacher Patricia Anderson is apologetic. “I’m sorry to the students but sometimes it takes more time to do get things done than you anticipate," she said. Anderson thinks Renaissance should have gotten started earlier and that their mistake can be an example for all. “[The late IDs] should be a lesson to all chronic procrastinators," she commented.

The IDs for freshman should be completed by Monday. Anderson said that students can come to the social studies office (room 146) during 5A and 5B to pick up their IDs. The other three grades will be finished “probably a week at a time."

I think it's great and all that we get these new IDs, but they're the same...except a star is attached(anyone can do that!) Shouldn't we get something more for our academic achievements?

um... why do the frosh get first dibs at bonus IDs? It gets a bit more difficult to maintain a high GPA at higher grade levels, upper-classmen have been in school longer, and besides, isn't doing things seniors-on-down a tradition at this point?

    It's about time.

Maybe to give them an incentive to work harder.

I think it's terrible that the administration has decided to publicly humiliate students who do not have high grades. That's essentially what this is. As one of my friends said, it's kind of like the different classes in Brave New World. I don't know who came up with this idea, but they should immediately abandon it. Basically, students will have their grades publicly displayed on their ID with out their consent. Classy.
