Sonika Ram honored

by Nora Toiv, Page Editor
Sophomore Sonika Ram died of leukemia on Wednesday March 13. According to her friends, she was a beautiful person.

Sophomore Duyen Le, one of the girls who helped put the commemorative poster on the wall, said that Sonika was a “sweet person" and was “always there for her friends."

Sonika’s friends all agreed that she was devoted to her religion. “She talked about God and was a very spiritual person," said sophomore Irene Le. Le also talked about how Sonika devoted her time in the summer to working at an orphanage in Mexico. Le said that the orphanage is being named after her. “She was like an angel on Earth," she said.

Sophomore Brittany Ruffin agreed with Le. “[Sonika] touched everyone’s hearts," she said.

According to Ruffin, Sonika was a very generous person. “If you borrowed money from her and tried to pay her back, she wouldn’t let you," Ruffin said.

Sonika’s dad spoke at the funeral. Sonika and her father had a “great relationship," said sophomore Diane Mba. She used to talk with her dad over coffee about school every morning.

Duyen Le said that she and Ashley Moore and a couple of Sonika’s other friends wrote everything Sonika liked on the poster; “family, friends, the world around her, Kobe Bryant, school, love, fries, cooking, God, and Starbucks coffee."

It's Sad...I writing to say that I have never met or seen Sonika but I still feel sorry for her closest friends and family who lost such wonderful well rounded soul...On Friday morning i walked in to class where there was a student who i was later told thatshe was Sonika's cousin...anyways i walked into class and saw her crying about something but didn't why she was crying...so i sat down and asked my classmate why was she crying and he said..."OH, she's crying because her cousin died on Wednesday night of Leukemia" I was certainly surprised to hear that...well the purpose is to give my condolences to her family and to say it's sad that she's gone and that you will never see her again but to remember that Sonika is in a better place...

My prayers go to the family of Sonika. I never met her, but death shocks everyone. I know that she will be missed by those whose lives she touched. I ask her parents to let her live-on in their hearts. God needed another angel and so he called upon her. She will make a difference in heaven as she did on earth.

Friday morning was one of the biggest shocks that i had ever encountered. To check my e-mail the day before (thursday) and forward a letter that will never be delivered, except in the hearts of all. it was very sad. that's very scary! but like she would tell me last year that God has blessed many, she was right. He blessed me with the chance to Know a very good friend...RIP, WITH ALL MY LOVE, YOU HAVE GONE TO A BETER PLACE.

I still can't believe she is gone because she was so lively. I will always remember Sonika because of her love for life. She was so close to God and always believed things happen for a reason and it can only be right that God wants her by his side because people with such good hearts and souls shouldn't be around all the evils of earth. When her father gave his speech at the funeral everyone was crying. He said so many good things about her and her the LOVE she offered to everyone and every word of it was true. I think am in denial and it will take a long time for me to accept this tragedy because when i think of all the times we talked and laughed at lunch i feel her prescence and i will always have her in my heart and my mind. Like Sonika always said "Reach for the moon and if you miss atleast you will fall among the stars."

Death is never desirable. Yet it is even less so when the person afflicted with this uncurable disease had not yet lived their lives fully to adulthood. I sincerely wish my blessing on Sonika, wherever she may be now, in hopes that she went to a place which is better for her here on Earth

Though I didn't know Sonika as well as many others did, I can honestly say that a smile was always on her face and that she seemed very devoted to all that she did. She will be greatly missed
