Fifty-one Blazers placed in the National Latin Exam, a comprehensive 40 multiple-choice question test, which was administered worldwide on March 11. The National Latin Exam, which is co-sponsored by the American Classical League and the National Junior Classical League, released the 2005 scores on April 20.

Five students' achievements won them gold summa cum laude awards, one step below a perfect paper. Ten students won silver maxima cum laude awards. Eighteen students were awarded magna cum laude awards, and 18 students were awarded cum laude awards.

The students receiving gold summa cum laude awards were junior Jacquelin Moonves, senior Wilma Bainbridge and freshman Danielle Tarr in Latin level I and junior Danny Scheer and sophomore Benjamin Katoski in Latin level III.

The 10 students who achieved silver maxima cum laude awards were freshmen Kun Li and Yang Yang, sophomores Benjamin Strauss and Abigail Barnes and juniors Bess Hagos, Fawn Gwynallen and Jeffrey Holliday in Latin I, junior Nathan Blustein in Latin II and junior Jingwei Lei and senior Martino Choi in Latin III.

According to Latin teacher Melinda Devaney, Blazers scored higher on this year's exam than on last year's exam. Devaney was happy with Blair's progress in the National Latin Exam. "We have achieved a lot [more]," she said.

In order to take the exam, students must be enrolled in Latin at Blair. The following exams were administered: Intro to Latin, Latin I, Latin II, Latin III-IV Prose, Latin III-IV Poetry and Latin V-VI.
