Blazers raise more than $1,500 in one day

When Alexandra Gunnison, former Blair student, saw the horrific images of Hurricane Katrina's destruction on the news, she decided to take action. She gathered a group of friends and went to the Safeway parking lot at Four Corners this past Saturday and Monday to wash cars and raise money for the hurricane victims.

On Saturday, they raised about $1,500, $300 of which was given to Safeway's muscular dystrophy charity. The remaining profits were given to the Red Cross. "There's definitely a good response," said Blair senior Rachel Martin, estimating 25 to 30 cars had come by on Monday morning.

Many individuals have donated money without having their car washed. In addition, two men came on Saturday and volunteered to help the group wash cars.

Other car washers on Monday included Jeremy Gilliams, Kylie Gilliams, Edwin John and Blair seniors Lizzi Albert, Katie Frank, Rachel Martin and Jacki Moonves.
