by Nora Toiv, Page Editor
U.S Olympians Jill Bakken, Joey Cheek, and Manuel Guerro are coming to speak at Blair this week.

The Olympians are coming to speak in the auditorium on Tuesday April 23 from 9-10 A.M. According to Athletic Director Dale Miller, senior softball player Juliana Stevenson and senior volleyball player William Hwang will be introducing the Olympians. Principal Phillip Gainous and Miller will also speak. After all the speeches there will be a short video about winter sports.

According to the Winter Olympics official website, Bakken won a gold medal in women’s bobsledding and Joey Cheek won a bronze medal in speed skating for the 1000 meter. Manuel Guerra was the goalie for the U.S ice sledge hockey team who won the gold medal in the paralympics.

Miller said that athletes from fall, winter, and spring sports will be invited. Fall and winter athletes will be given an invitation in their first period, tomorrow. Spring athletes should have received invitations from their coaches except for the gymnastics team who will receive their invitations in first period. Every athlete in attendance will receive a commemorative t-shirt at the event.

The Olympians are stopping by Blair before they go to eat lunch with the President at the White House.

It's about time the athletes got a little respect around here. Athletics is a big part of developing from a teenager to an adult. I've learned alot about myself and other people through sports.
