Three of five remaining nominees will be eliminated at Nominating Convention

Two of five potential candidates will be chosen as final nominees for the 29th Student Member of the Board (SMOB) at the Nominating Convention at Northwest High School on March 2.

Seven students filed for the candidate position, but two students, sophomore Lauren Lee of Seneca Valley High School and junior Anyi Yvonne Fomengia of Einstein HS, withdrew as nominees. The remaining five will give speeches and answer questions in front of student delegates, who will fill out two sets of ballots to determine the final two SMOB candidates.

Blair is sending its 18 allotted delegates, plus two alternates, five observers and three members of the Special Elections Committee, to serve as election officials on March 2. Students had the opportunity to apply to be delegates a few weeks ago, and the SGA Senate made the final decisions on who would attend.

SMOB elections within most secondary schools will take place on April 26. Blair's voting will occur on April 25 and April 26.

The winning candidate will be sworn into office on July 1.

The SMOB candidates are:

  • Junior Lindsay Abbett - Quince Orchard HS
  • Junior Thomas Antonsen - Poolesville HS
  • Junior Sarah Horvitz - Springbrook HS
  • Junior Elizabeth (Ellie) Lan - Churchill HS
  • Sophomore Allison Sabet - Poolesville HS
