Newsbrief: Blair mentioned in article on "freak dancing"

by Nora Toiv, Page Editor
Blair was mentioned today in an article on “freak dancing" in the Washington Post .

The article was about schools crack down on inappropriate dancing and cites sources from all over the area ranging from Duke Ellington High School in Washington DC to Oakland Mills High School in Maryland. The article said “Montgomery Blair High School's principal enlisted students to make an instructional video on dancing do's and don'ts."

So far, according to BNC’s Info Flow coordinator Ilene Arnsdorf, no such video has been commissioned.

.....uhm....ok....am I the only one who is scared? Seriously now..who can deem whats inappropriate and what is not. It's just some old fart who's jealous that they cant get any. I find a lot of my friends who engage in "freak" dancing, are prudes who have problems saying the word "sex" with a straight face. As for this issue with the skirts and thongs. Isnt that a little worse than the possibility of showing 1/2 cm of butt?

I'm guessing this falls under "generally accepted social standards," or something like that. Not saying it's right or wrong either way...

Arent we supposed to be living in a politically correct society? Isnt everything everyone does, in theory, supposed to be accepted? How can Blair call themselves so damn diverse, but tell people what to wear and how to dance, forcing people to fit under their standards of what is right. We might as well go back to the ice age, society has not made much progress

Would you rather have preteens and teenagers having sex??? Dancing is harmless!!! Geez, this isn't the 50's people, lighten up!

Wait....is this article saying that The Washington Post blatantly lied about our school?? Why would the Post say there was going to be a movie if there wasn't????

All of the critics say that their parents did not approve of their style of dancing, yet they refuse to see the obvious point: If you don't like it, don't do it. It isn't your business if someone else does.

Anyone who says freaking doesn't get you turned-on is lying, dead or doing it wrong. And if you can get your girl to freak, you're one step closer. Its going to happen and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

Freak dancing is fine. I've done it many times and I'm still a virgin. It's just a new way of dancing. Teachers are probably jealous they aren't cool enough to do it so they try to control our actions. Just one more thing, good luck.

hey sup.. freak dancing is so much fun i always do it when i was at prom or dances its natural for us teens. its no big deal so all people should stop trippen about it. at least some of us teens arent having sex and if some teens are its there buisness and no one elses. you can ban it but us teens in the world wont listen well just keep on doing it so you mightest well leave it alone. i know it seems bad or nasty but its a new millenium its 2002 and its been around since i was in middle school. so you adults have your dance style and we teenages have ares.i find it fun and harmless and its NOT SEXXX. i bet if you try it youed like it.

Hey! What can I say... I think freak dancing is great in the right atmosphere - clubs, raves and even shcool dances. But really, I'm not sure if I want to dance like that in front of my fat uncle or grandma at a wedding reception or something like that. Freak dancing is fun, but unfortunatly it's not meant to be done everywhere. I try to look at this in a grown-up way... in 20 years, what will we consider "evil" or "dirty"? So I try to keep an open on why my parents and other adults think the way they do.

hey people. i think freak dancing is a way to express one self and adults shouldnt tell us how to dance. parents can kiss it if they have a problem with it. adults back in the day used to dance arotic so they shouldnt be telling us how to dance
