The perfect holiday gifts in 2006

by Julia Mazerov, Online Entertainment Editor
Holiday season has rolled around again, and chances are you're scrambling to find something to please everyone on your list. Luckily, Silver Chips Online has compiled a list of the latest in electronics, fashion, gaming and more for those of you unsure of what to put on your own wish list and what to get for your friends and family. Happy shopping!

Dreaming of a "Grey" Christmas

On those cold, snowy winter nights, there's nothing better than to curl up in front of the TV with a long night of vegging ahead of you. Ratings are higher than ever with season three of "Grey's Anatomy" in full swing, and a lot of people new to the show are starting to tune in. So for anyone who can't get enough of all the surgery and scandal that this season has to offer but missed the last two, the first two seasons on DVD are the perfect gift. After all, 40 straight episodes of watching McDreamy work his magic are sure to warm anyone up.

Moccasin Madness

You're probably no stranger to the torture of getting out from under the covers on those winter mornings and the feeling of your feet hitting the cold, bare floor. Well, let a friend slip their feet into something cozy this Christmas, with a pair of cute moccasins! Practical for the weather and also fashionable for school, these moccasins range in price and are available at all major department stores for a relatively cheap steal, and also at a more expensive value, at UGG Australia.

An Xbox Xmas
Now that the Xbox 360 isn't in such high demand, it's a lot easier to get your hands on this gaming system, which came out last summer. With over six million sold worldwide, new features like high-definition visuals and a larger hard-drive make this one of the most popular gaming systems available. There are also hundreds of accessories for the Xbox 360, such as the wireless racing wheel, wireless controller and quick charge kit, which provide a cheaper way to please the gamers on your list without actually purchasing the entire system.

The apple of your eye

The iPod Nano, available in five new colors and complete with a thinner design, is back and better than ever. Last year, the 4GB Nano held about 1,000 tracks. Apple has doubled the Nano's song capacity and upgraded the device to 8GB this year. Starting at $149, this mp3 player is definitely one to ask your parents for.

A creative approach to caffeine
Not a morning person? Chances are you have a friend who isn't either. Personalized coffee-cups are a great way to show your creative side while also giving a friend a caffeine boost in the morning. Cheap and easy to make, these do-it-yourself cups can be decorated with pictures of you and your friends, magazine clippings, or any other decorative craft. These cups can be found at most local Starbucks for about $10.

Why go with Wii?

Ready for the ultimate gaming experience? The new Nintendo Wii provides just that, with a wireless controller that detects motion and rotation. Unlike most sports video games that are played with a controller, this new gaming system from Nintendo enables you to play a baseball game with an actual bat. You can play baseball, tennis, and even box and bowl from the comfort of your own living room. Thus, the Wii is the perfect gift for anyone who craves a more natural, engaging gaming experience, and is also a great buy for dads who are too lazy to teach their kids how to play sports!

Accessories are a girl's best friend
Great for a stocking-stuffer and also undoubtedly one of today's hot trends, headbands are the perfect, inexpensive gift for girls of all ages. With thousands of different colors, patterns, and designs, you'll easily find one to please anyone on your list. They're the perfect way to spice up any outfit without taking a huge bite out of your wallet. You can find them at almost all accessory stores, including Claire's, After Thoughts and Accessorize It.

"Gear" up for the new Halo
Made for the Xbox 360, "Gears of War" is an epic game depicting humankind's battle against a revolting species of locusts that have taken over the planet. Using the Unreal Engine 3, "Gears of War" has graphics that are un-matched by any other game available for Xbox 360 users. With new, breathtaking interactive environments and unprecedented images, "Gears of War" is expected to top Halo.

"Face" the Cold

Though expensive at $165, The North Face Denali Fleece is back once again and available in over 15 new colors this season. One of The North Face's most popular products, the fleece provides a warm and durable winter jacket for everyone. You can either check it out at The North Face's home page, or at your local Nordstrom.

The "24" days of Christmas

Without TiVo, every episode of shows that run week after week is difficult to catch. In FOX sensation 24, one blink of an eye can cause you to miss a shooting, bombing or juicy White House scandal. Luckily, Jack's back on DVD! Season five was released on Dec. 5, making this buy the perfect gift for anyone who couldn't get enough of Logan last season.

great, way to be original (sorry, sarcasm is lost online). did you ever think that people might not want to be mindless conformists that wear north face and have ipod earbuds growing from their ears? plus, I mean, we aren't all spoiled rich kids (not claiming that you're one of them)that can afford to buy my family or friends a nintendo wii. nice try, but I expected more.

and, as an endnote, accessories ARE NOT a girl's best friend.

I agree with Nico - these gifts are not affordable! How do you expect the typical high schooler to buy these? Silver Chips should do better; this article does not appeal to Big Blair.

A better article would have focused on do-it-yourself or under $20 gifts.
