Two Wootton girls found dead

Two students from Wootton High School who went missing on Jan. 19 were found dead in a dark blue Subaru on Feb. 4 in Loudoun County. Two people who were four-wheeling in the area discovered their bodies.

Almost two weeks of searching ended on Friday, when the bodies of Rachel Samantha Smith, 16, and Rachel Lacy Crites, 18, were found next to each other in the Subaru they were driving. Although the search went on for so long, the girls died less than 60 miles from their homes.

Kraig Troxell, Loudoun Country Sheriffs Officer spokesman, said that the bodies had no obvious signs of trauma, and officials considered their deaths an apparent suicide. More will be known after autopsies are performed, but test for drugs and alcohol will take several weeks to be completed.

Detectives from the Family Crimes Division of the Montgomery County police had released a statement Jan. 22 saying that they were "concerned about the mental state of both girls." Their concerns were due in part to a diary entry made by Crites that, according to WRC-TV, read: "Wherever I end up laying, whether buried or cremated, I want to stay with my true love, buried next to her. This is my choice. I'm sorry."

republican- its sad that you take this story so lightly and are disgustingly insincere.

I doubt the mourners of the dead will appreciate the sarcasm.

to the first commenter: you give a bad name to all republicans. i am embarrassed to call myself one after reading your comment.

Does anyone think that they may have decided to commit suicide because Crites' diary entry was put all over the news? I don't think that it contributed in any way to the search for the girls.

Republican, your comment was made in extremely bad taste and was anything but humorous, as I assume you originally intended it to be. You ought to be ashamed of yourself for stooping to that level. Taking life for granted is one thing, but mocking the deaths of two young girls is another. It's people like you that make me start to lose faith in the human race.

your comment has crossed the border between being obnoxious and being plain irreverent.

For one thing, no sentence in this article praises the girls for what they have done or commends their deaths as a a "noble sacrifice". Everything you have said, about oppressive families and their starting a new life, comes completely out of the blue and is unsupported by this article(or ANY, I've been following the news about this case and NO NEWS STATIONS are saying anything similar to what you are criticizing). Have you even read this article?

For another, it is clear that these girls had mental issues and their suicides are horribly tragic, especially because they are so young.

Two young people have died and all you can do is joke. When I read the comment you wrote I (and I'm not kidding) felt sick to the stomach. Not every situation calls for a "clever" comeback, least of all death. How juvenilem insensitive of you, and just plain DUMB. I'm so disgusted that someone my age could make light of this article.

    to Republican:
I agree that your sarcasm is incredibly rude and insensitive. Besides, you are jumping to conclusions about something you probably know nothing about. The article only mentions the girl's diary entry, but nothing else about them . You don't know what else could have been going on in their lives to make them commit suicide.
