China

June 15 - Hundreds of children and many adults have been rescued in northern China in what has become a labor abuse scandal. A manhunt was announced for Heng Tinghan the foreman of a brick kiln where 31 workers were rescued.

June 18 - Chinese police captured Heng Tinghan who was accused of holding workers in the brutal, furnace like kilns. Tinghan apologized for mistreated workers, but refused to accept blame for the death of a mentally impaired worker.

India

June 15 - Police in New Delhi, India arrested the owner of an illegal nursing home after health officials discovered 35 tiny bones and eight skulls buried there. The chief medical officer of the area saw evidence of female feticide, or abortion of female fetuses. While abortion is legal in India, aborting a fetus because of its sex is illegal.

Iraq

June 17 - Hooded gunmen wearing black blew up a Sunni mosque in Basra after ordering police guarding the mosque to leave. The attack was the second of its kind in two days.

June 18 - In an annual survey, the Failed States Index, Iraq was ranked the world's second most unstable country, behind Sudan.

June 22 - In a 48-hour period 14 Americans were killed in combat in five attacks mostly in Baghdad, the military announced.

North Korea

June 12 - American officials reported that the U.S. is close to reaching a deal transferring $25 million in frozen funds to North Korea in hopes of getting the country to begin dismantling its nuclear arms program.

June 22 - Christopher R. Hill, U.S. envoy, finished negotiations with North Korea with assurances that Pyongyang will slow down its main nuclear reactor.

Turkey

June 11 - 14 people were wounded and windows were shattered when a small bomb exploded outside an Istanbul clothing shop. The bomb came amid heightened tensions in Turkey over attacks by separatist Kurdish rebels.
