Boys' team places fourth; girls fifth

GEORGETOWN PREPARATORY SCHOOL, Sept. 8 -

The Blair cross country team looked good at the Woodward Relays held at Georgetown Preparatory School on Monday, with the boys' team placing fourth overall in a field of 12 and the girls' team placing fifth out of a field of nine teams. The boys' pair of senior co-captain Rutvij Pandya and senior Greg Vogel placed second behind Walter Johnson's pair of Sean O'Leary and Roni Teich.

Woodward Relays allowed each school to enter six pairs of boys and an unlimited number of pairs of girls. The first runner from each pair would run one mile along the course, though according to senior co-captain Frank Wen, the course was likely a little longer than a mile. The mile would finish at the starting line, at which point the runner would hand off their baton to their partner, who would run the same course. This continued until each runner had run three miles for a total of six miles per pair.

Both coach Eric Prange and Wen expressed their pride with the meets results, but also looked to the future of the season. "I hope and expect that this meet is not our only highlight this season," Prange said. "All of our runners are ready to give it their all," Wen added.

Trophies were awarded to the top 25 pairs on both the girls and boys sides. On the boys' side, Wen and sophomore Jeremy Ardanuy placed 18th and seniors Colin Schmidt and Peter Myers placed 22nd. On the girls' side, senior co-captain Elaine Chung and junior Roxanne Oroxom placed seventh, sophomores Theresa Regan and Jenny Sholar placed 13th and senior Abigail Cember and junior Jan Nguyen placed 20th.

The Blazers' next meet is Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Brentsville Relays in Nokesville, Virginia at 4:00 p.m.
