This holiday themed event will feature a variety of performances and refreshments, according to Silver Quill Literary Editor Cindy Sui. "The Open Mic that is hosted by Silver Quill every two months is an outlet for the creativity of the school that attains the atmosphere of a small festival," she said. Blazers are invited to attend at anytime throughout lunch.

Dramatic readings and musical acts are examples of performances that students can expect to hear, according to Jones. "Readings can be stories, essays, or poems, original work or just a favorite piece of the reading," she said. "We appreciate all talent, and anything goes!" Highlights of the last Open Mic, held on Oct. 30, included an original rap song, performed by senior Paris Essoumba of "Those Guys" and a pop serenade by sung by seniors Abdul Nuriddin and Michelyn Bouknight

Many Blazers who performed at the last Open Mic plan to make another appearance at tomorrow's event. "Based on verbal contact with them, we anticipate that all performers from last time will return again," Jones said. Seniors Alex Denton and Zeke Leeds are expected to deliver a vocal accompaniment to the guitar. Another returning performer, junior Justine Garrine, will be reading poetry. Junior Rian Henry will team up with returning performer and junior Emma Kauffman to sing. Seniors Sophia Deng and Dalton Wu, newcomers to the Open Mic, are scheduled to sing and play guitar.

Although there are only four confirmed acts on the set list, Jones expects more people will volunteer to perform as the event progresses. "There will be many more acts, we just don't know which ones yet," she said. "Even if acts do not sign up prior to the event, we encourage anyone who we can fit in to perform if they volunteer during the show," Jones said.

The main purpose of this event is to display an assortment of Blair talent and publicize the Silver Quill magazine. "We hope that people who are in the audience will be inspired by the performers to show off their talents in our next Open Mic," Jones said. "We hope that everyone is encouraged to submit."

Silver Quill encourages interested students to sign up in room 141, the English Office, the Media Center or through email at silverquillmag@gmail.com.
