Movie Releases

More Than a Game (PG) - If any film this year is deserving of the oft-abused adjectives "heartwarming" and "inspiring," it is this finely made sports documentary. "More Than a Game," which premiered at hometown festival Silverdocs this summer, follows a formative LeBron James and four African American team members who make up the core of the Akron, Ohio high school basketball team that aspires to win national championships. You will cry, you will laugh. It will warm your heart. Seriously.

Where the Wild Things Are (PG) -You got chills when you saw the trailer. And from early critical reviews, it looks like Spike Jonze's fantasy is the wildly creative masterpiece you thought it would be. What are you waiting for? Take a walk on the wild side!

DVDs

Star Trek (PG-13) - Brush up on your Klingon salute and stock up on those pointy ears, the summer sci-fi hit comes out on DVD soon! The slicker, sleeker update features jaw-dropping effects, visionary cinematography and Zachary Quinto's eyebrows.

Up (G) - Pixar's annual entry succeeds in packing an emotional punch as well as giving the usual master class in animation. The first 10 minutes, a montage of the touching lifelong romance between Charles Muntz and his wife, will leave you in tears. After that, mop up the mess, and prepare to grin and laugh your way through the rest of the colorful, madcap adventure, from a hot air balloon to the valleys of South America.

The Road" (R) - Based on the powerful and dark book by one of the most acclaimed authors of our decade, Cormac McCarthy, the adaption promises to be one of the most bleak and compelling movie experience this winter. Viggo Mortensen stars as a father traveling with his son across the desolated wasteland of North America in the near future in search of sanctuary. Director John Hillcoat adds a gritty, visceral punch to this disaster movie for our times.

An Education" (PG-13) - Rising star Carey Mulligan anchors this coming-of-age film set in pre-Swinging Sixties London. Mulligan plays Jenny, a 16-year-old British schoolgirl, who by chance meets and befriends a 30-something playboy (Peter Sarsgaard). As their relationship develops, Jenny must choose between a prestigious career at Oxford and the wild, glamorous life offered her.
