Blair Pair: Is love finally in the air?

History buff M meets cupcake enthusiast F. We can hear the bells!

It's been a pretty bleak winter. The days are short. Gloomy and dirty gray snow still covers the ground. But the prospect of some Silver Chips Online manufactured young love will surely melt away any winter woes. Seniors Nils Molina and Sydney Smith are kicking off Blair Pair 2010 with a bang. Will the Blazers make an instant connection or will these two reporters lose their self-claimed title of "Best Matchmakers Ever?"

Your best friend would describe you as:
Him: Interesting, helpful
Her: Sarcastic

My ideal guy/girl will:
Him: Not be afraid to speak her mind, even when she may be wrong
Her: Hold the door open for me

Your romantic history in three words:
Him: Writing this application (for Blair Pair)
Her: Not the best

At 3 p.m. two expert matchmakers stood by the trophy case, waiting to unite the two daters. After a few minutes, we came to realize that there are an astounding number of people who hang out around the trophy case after school. After a lot of searching (and a great deal of yelling) we found the pair and exchanged quick introductions...of love. Okay, maybe not yet.

Nils: "I was pretty surprised because it was a person! And I thought that she seemed pretty friendly and normal."
Sydney:"I noticed his eyes were very bright! He seemed like a cool guy."

After a brief exchange of "hellos" and smiles, the two were sent off to their date destination. The pair seemed to jump right into a flowing conversation as they walked off into the sunset and toward Fajita Coast (maybe it was 3 p.m. and maybe the sun wasn't really setting, but it sure looked like it from where we were watching).

Nils: "It wasn't awkward ever. We talked for a couple hours and we walked together back to school."
Sydney: "Right off the bat, I could tell he was really very intelligent. It was almost a little bit intimidating."

It was love at first sight...of the menu. Photo courtesy of Lorena Kowalewski.

Although the two may have been a little shy, they both seemed to enjoy eating. Food can often serve as a solid base for relationships; these two reporters can assure you of that.

Nils: "I ordered a steak taco. And that time of the day I was pretty hungry so I ate all of it. She had a quesadilla."
Sydney: "The food was delicious and I really liked the sour cream. I think that he may have thought that that was a bit strange."

As the afternoon progressed, the two hit a high note in their dates. Relishing in great conversation, they discussed their plans for the future and shared many laughs.

Nils: "I think it went well. I think the conversation was pretty good and it was pretty fun. At the end we talked about schizophrenia because she was thinking about becoming a psychiatrist so I grouped people based on whether they were schizophrenic or not. I thought that was pretty funny."
Sydney: "It was really funny! He had really unique ideas and they were really interesting! I laughed a lot."

Before long, the date had come to a close. Although the pair walked back to school together, they didn't exchange any contact information. Sydney and Nils both seemed to have a good afternoon but didn't quite feel the sparks.

Nils: "It was a fun one-time thing, I think. I wouldn't mind much doing it again. I doubt anything will come of it." Despite not feeling any romantic connection, Nils did rate the date a 4 (out of 5). "It was pretty fun overall," he says.
Sydney: "It was really nice to meet him and he is a really sweet and genuine guy. I hope we get to be friends." Sydney also gave the date a 4. "I had a good time!"

Blazers, Blair Pair is still looking for singles wishing to be set up. For a chance to meet "the one," check out the application here and e-mail it to blairpair2010@gmail.com.
