School's out for the rest of the week. Thanksgiving dinner was delicious. But most importantly, Black Friday, also known as the Olympics of shopping, is just around the corner! Like any great Olympian, you must prepare yourself. You could look at clothing sites, check out the best deals or even plan a route to hit all the best stores at the malls and outlets. However, the best way to get ready for an intense day of the shopping Olympics is by eating a good breakfast. Luckily, SCO is here to help you out. Now, get your forks ready to prepare for the best Black Friday ever.

Early-Bird Oatmeal
If you just have to be at the stores at 12 a.m. for the early-bird specials, then a quick easy breakfast is a must-have. This oatmeal is easy to make and can warm to fill your stomach as you camp outside of your favorite store in the cold.

Kitchenware:
- Knife
- Cutting board
- Saucepan
- Measuring cups (1 cup, 1/3 cup)
- Liquid Measuring cups (1 cup)
- Measuring spoons (1 tablespoon, 1 teaspoon, 1/2 teaspoon)

Ingredients:
- 1 large apple or 2-3 small apples, peeled
- 2 1/3 cups apple juice, unsweetened
- 1 1/3 cups quick-cooking oats
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla

Preparation:
1. Core the apple and chop it into fine pieces.
2. Add the apple pieces, apple juice, oats, cinnamon and salt into the saucepan.
3. Bring the mixture to a boil. Then, boil for 1 additional minute. Stir occasionally.
4. Shut off the stove. Stir in honey and vanilla into the oatmeal.
5. Cover the pot and let it stand for 5 minutes.
6. Serve warm.

Preparation time is approximately 6-10 minutes. Makes about 2-3 servings.

Grab and Go Boiled Eggs
If you’re running short on time and want to leave the house as quickly as possible, toss a few eggs in a pot of water and boil them while you get ready for your shopping excursions.

Kitchenware:
- Pot

Ingredients:
- 1 egg (add more if desired)
- Cold water

Preparation:
1. Put the egg(s) into the pot.
2. Add water to the pot until top of the egg(s) are submerged.
3. Bring the water to a boil (about five minutes). Then, let it boil for another minute.
4. Turn off the heat, and let the egg(s) stand in the pot for about 10 minutes.
5. Peel the shell and serve.

Prep time is approximately one minute. Makes 1 serving per egg.

Lazy Morning Pancakes
If you’re just not that into shopping and you woke up at 10 a.m. (...or later), then go cozy up in the kitchen and make some pancakes from scratch. It’s fun, easy and the results are worth it.

Kitchenware:
- Large bowl
- Medium-sized bowl
- Wooden spoon
- Measuring spoons (1 tablespoon, 1/2 teaspoon, 1/4 teaspoon)
- Measuring cups (1 cup, 1/2 cup)
- Liquid measuring cups (1 cup, 1/4 cup)
- Frying pan or griddle
- Knife
- Cutting board

Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups of flour, sifted
- 1 tablespoon and 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1 tablespoon white sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg, room temperature
- 1 1/4 cups milk, slightly heated/warm (microwave)
- 3 tablespoons of melted butter, unsalted
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla
- Oil
- Syrup (optional)
- 1 cup of strawberries, sliced and tossed in sugar, or 1 cup of blueberries (optional)

Preparation:
1. Put the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt into the large bowl. Mix.
2. Break the egg.
3. Add the egg, milk, butter and vanilla to the medium-size bowl. Mix.
4. Add the medium-sized bowl contents to the large bowl. Mix until the mixture is smooth.
5. Lightly oil the pan and put it on the stove on medium-high heat.
6. Pour about 1/4 cup of batter into the pan.
7. Cook until each side of the pancake is golden-brown.
8. Repeat steps 6-7 as desired.
9. Serve with syrup and strawberries or blueberries (optional).

Prep time is approximately 10 minutes. Makes 6-8 servings.
