Silverstyle: Taking the $ out of A$AP

This year, A$AP Rocky has won over both the rap and shoe games as one of hip-hop's stylish artists. A scholar in street fashion, A$AP's signature outfit is a luxury jersey, shiny black jeans and sneakers. As the year transitions from winter's street-goth trend and heads towards a white-out color scheme, black and white have become a staple in his wardrobe.

Unfortunately, A$AP's own merchandise infused with his style, is a little pricey. It may take weeks of hard earned allowance money just to purchase one shirt. Junior Jacob Little says, "He's dressing in a way that not many people can afford but it's catching attention because a lot of people may consider it weird." Luckily, the easiest (and cheapest) way to look as fresh as A$AP without spending nearly as much money is by going to thrift/consignment shops, and a local shoe store.

Jerseys and Jeans

At thrift stores, there's often a colorful array of jerseys with a variety of last names and teams. In the case that you can't find a black jersey with white lettering, make sure these colors of the jersey are not those of your rival school.

Since A$AP self-proclaims himself as "trendy," it's important to keep aware of the trends he endorses when shopping. Currently, the trend is for jeans and pants to look tailored and slim at the leg. In true A$AP fashion, find black jeans that shine. H&M follows this trend nicely. While their black regular fit jeans are $25, they're not $300.

Snapbacks and Shoes

Graphic snapbacks and beanies with have been en vogue for a while, and their availability is far from exclusive. This is why A$AP sports less more accessible brands such as ASOS or his own merchandise. But while ASOS is not Givenchy, their snapbacks can cost $67. It's best to stick to the cheaper selection behind the counters of local shoe stores.

Speaking of shoe stores, an A$AP outfit wouldn't be complete without mad shoe game. Since Blair is a fashion savvy school, expensive shoe game isn't uncommon. However, it's always smart to spend less money for the same price. Consignment shops such as Buffalo Exchange are uncanny places in which to find classic Nike's, Adidas and Air Jordans for half price.

Lookin' Fly

For the finishing touch, flashy jewelry is a must. No need to splurge at Tiffany's, consignment shops are secret hideouts for gorgeous chains and watches. Unfortunately, the trademark of A$AP's jewelry ensemble, his grill, is not available at any local store. But as his music becomes more accessible, perhaps even the most eccentric elements of his style will too.
