The varsity boys basketball team (5-18) fell to Paint Branch (13-10) in the first round of the playoffs on Friday night by a score of 58-45.

Down single digits against Paint Branch, the Blazers tighten up their defense, poised for a run midway through the second quarter. A Panther loses his handle on the rock, and junior guard Justin Shack snags the loose ball, sprints the other way, and, with no defenders in sight, lays it gently against the glass. Clank. Off the edge of the rim and out – a sequence of events that epitomizes the 2010-11 varsity boys basketball season.

In a season that hasn't lived up to the hopes of players and fans, the Blazers (5-17) beat Walter Johnson (7-15) on senior night to end their regular season on a two-game winning streak.

The boys basketball team (3-17) fell to the Rockville Rams (7-12) by a score of 64-55 on Tuesday, on Feb. 8. The Blazers were unable to contain Rockville's 6'6" forward DeAndre Kelly, who finished with 32 on the night.

The varsity boys basketball team (3-17) entered Friday's game against Bethesda-Chevy Chase (BCC) in hopes of coming up with its first win in over a month and a half.

Sherwood (12-5) came to Nelson H. Kobren Gym on Monday night, fresh off two big wins over division heavyweights Magruder and Springbrook. The Warriors were no doubt expecting an easy W against a struggling Blair squad that they had already beaten handily earlier in the season.

Coming off an impressive effort against Sherwood, the Blazers (3-16) looked to continue their improved play against Rockville (6-12). Yet poor execution and a lack of energy doomed the Blazers to a 64-55 loss.

In one of their closest games of the season, boys' varsity basketball (3-15) just barely missed knocking off heavily favored Sherwood (12-5) in what would have been the upset of the year.

As they have all season, the Blazers (3-13) came out strong against the favored Colonels (15-1) but faltered late in the game, failing to pull off the upset.
