Around the world in one week: exploring D.C.’s restaurant scene

Every year, summer break provides the perfect opportunity to travel and explore, whether it be a one day road trip to a nearby beach, or an adventurous month spent hiking in the mountains. However, traveling doesn’t always need to entail patiently packing away clothing, browsing online for the best hotels or spending hours searching for flight availability.

NewsChips: So much to celebrate

Thousands of people in brightly colored clothing, outrageous makeup and Mardi Gras necklaces, stream towards DuPont Circle. Most of them have rainbow colors somewhere on their bodies. All of them are excited for the parade to start.

SlutWalk D.C. draws attention to rape victim treatment

On Saturday, hundreds of men and women from the Metro area participated in SlutWalk D.C. 2011. The march brought attention to the issues of rape victim blaming, saying it the victim's fault for getting assaulted, and slut shaming, blaming the victim's attire or behavior for getting assaulted, toward sexual assault victims. Aside from bringing people together over a common issue, the SlutWalk aimed to address other issues regarding sexual assault victims’ treatment, such as drafting new reproductive health service legislation and encouraging all D.C. hospitals to provide access to rape kits, according to the event's website.
