Blazers compete at hockey national championships

From March 28 to April 1, freshmen Max Kronstadt and Javier Lopez-Casterno competed in the Ice Hockey National Championships in Wayne, NJ, with their team, the Montgomery Blue Devils (U14). The team came within a point of making the quarterfinals at Nationals and finished the season with a record of 28-13-4.

"First of all, I donít like Frisbee, I love it. And second of all, 'Frisbee' is a wham-o disc, 'Ultimate' is a lifestyle," jokes junior Devin Rutan, a co-captain of Blairís Ultimate Frisbee team, "Home Cooked." The Ultimate team, along with crew, paddling, running, ice hockey, are Blairís club sports, meaning that they donít receive school funding, their coaches and referees are not paid for by the school and they donít follow country established schedules for competitions.

Washington County (WC) (16-2-1) beat out the Blair ice hockey team (12-4-0) in a playoff matchup on Friday night. Despite strong defense and powerful goalkeeping, Blair was unable to score in the first two periods and lost by a final score of 5-1.

Ice hockey rams Richard Montgomery

Blair ice hockey (12-3) defeated the Richard Montgomery (RM) Rockets on Tuesday night by a final score of 6-1. A game characterized by strong goalkeeping, intense defense and enthusiastic fans, the Blazers won their first playoff game by a wide margin.

Ice Hockey dominates Bengals

The Blair ice hockey team (8-3) defeated the Blake Bengals (0-10) 5-0, in a game marked by some inconsistent playing and a less than desirable amount of teamwork from the Blazers. It was Blair's last regular season game, and junior goalie Michel Devynck's third shutout in four games.

Blair ice hockey (6-2) defeated the Poolesville Griffins on Friday night by a final score of 10-0. Teamwork and communication were key to the Blazers' large margin of victory.
