Back to school for parents

Sept. 9, 2003, midnight | By Allison Elvove | 20 years, 7 months ago

Blair's Back to School Night is scheduled for Thursday, September 11. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. with live musical entertainment and conclude at 9:30 p.m.

After school on September 11, students should give parents/guardians their first period teacher's name, course and room number. The adults will receive full schedules upon reporting to first period at 7:00 p.m.

Physical education programs, which include dance and specialty classes, will all meet in the gym, and Edison Center classes will meet in the Media Center.

Students are encouraged to serve as guides for adults and/or to accompany their own parents; they can receive student service learning credits for doing so. Parents who desire bilingual interpreters should report to the student courtyard at 6:30 p.m.

Linda Wanner, the Assistant Principal for tenth grade, explained that Back to School Night is a time for staff to provide parents with an overview of the courses. "Teachers introduce themselves and give a little insight into who they are. They're supposed to cover the course requirements, review their grading policy, [and] give the parents their email address," Wanner said. "Basically, it is an informational meeting. It is good for the parents to connect to the teachers and vice versa."

The schedule for Back to School Night is as follows:

6:30-7:00 p.m. - The Jazz Band and Chamber, Blazer and Show Choirs will perform in Blair Boulevard.
7:00-7:10 p.m. - Period 1
