Sloppy play by Seneca Valley assures victory for Blazers

Blair's baseball team beat Seneca Valley High School at Blair today, 10-8.

The Blazers only trailed one time in the game and then only by one run, 8-7, following a four run rally by Seneca Valley to lead off the sixth inning. Blair countered with one out in the bottom of the sixth as junior shortstop Josh Richardson tripled to the gap in left-center field and drove in senior center fielder Will Fassett from third and sophomore left fielder Thomas Foley from first. Richardson scored on a single by senior second baseman Thomas Kaufman in the next at bat, bringing the score to 10-8.

Seneca Valley threatened in the seventh inning as senior Nick Cope came in to pitch as a reliever. After one strikeout, three consecutive Seneca Valley players reached base safely to load the bases. A great catch by Richardson in shallow center and a pop fly in foul territory caught by junior first baseman Max Pollock got Blair out of the jam and won the game.

Blair was helped by multiple pass balls, wild pitches, walks and throwing errors. In their five-run third inning alone, the Blazers were walked three times, reached on an error once, and stole 12 bases.
