Blair falls to Sherwood 1-4 in senior game

OCT. 21, BLAZER STADIUM—

After the boys' varsity soccer team's initial meeting with Sherwood on Oct. 15, which was postponed after the first half of play due to rain, the two team's came together again tonight to conclude the match- the Blazers hoping to make up their two goal deficit and win their senior game, the Warriors hoping to keep their victory and add to it. The game ended in favor of the Warriors with a final score of 1-4, dropping the season record to 3-6-1 and marking yet another game full of heartache and frustration for the Blazer squad.

As always, the boys' were kept in the game by the consistent and aggressive play of co-captains Yenika Fon, Greg Breads and Jack Eisen-Markowitz. Fon kept the defense in check, using his speed and powerful clears to save the Blazers at a few critical points in the game. A new field formation found Breads in the midfield, single-handedly keeping Blair in the game at various points throughout the half. Eisen-Markowitz, who was moved up to forward from his normal starting spot in the midfield, put the Blazers lone goal in the net for the second time this week.

Eisen-Markowitz's goal came in the last minute of the game. The Sherwood goalie came too far out of the goal, and Eisen-Markowitz put a light touch past him and then another touch put the ball into the open net.

While a number of factors, from injuries to poor team dynamics, have negatively impacted the boys' season, Coach Adrian Baez summarized what has really been the most detrimental factor to the team's success. "We start out strong and then seem to fade, basically because the forwards don't put the ball in the net. We get it up the field and then we don't score."

Tomorrow night, the boys' head to Churchill at 7:00 to try to end the season on a more positive note.
