Blazers advance in game show

Blair's "It's Academic" team was victorious on the high-school quiz show that aired on Jan. 20 on NBC4. In the competition, filmed on Dec. 9 of last year, Blair scored 615 points.

Demonstrating vast knowledge of trivia, seniors Lois Bangiolo, David Gootenberg and Justin Vlasits represented Blair in the 46th season of "It's Academic." Blair's two opponents, South Lake High School and National Cathedral School, scored 400 and 500, respectively.

"We did really well," coach James Schafer said, even in the face of "really tough competition. The Nation Cathedral team did not miss many questions and buzzed in before Blair's team did for several questions that Blair's team knew how to answer, according to team alternate, Allen Zhang.

By scoring highest of the three teams, Blair moved to the second round of competition. "As we look down the line," Schafer said, "there are a lot of good teams, so we still got a lot of work to do."
