336 Blazers given prizes for athletic achievements

The Blair fall sports awards ceremony was held from 7-8:30 p.m. last night in the auditorium to honor 336 Blazers for their achievements in the fall sports season. The ceremony gave each coach the opportunity to commemorate his or her players and speak of the team's accomplishment.

Athletes who earned a 4.0 GPA received honorary patches signifying their accomplishment.  Photo courtesy of Amir Gorjifard.

The ceremony began with opening remarks from Assistant Athletic Director John MacDonald, who congratulated athletes on their dedication and hard work. Assistant Principal Edith Verdejo then took the podium to recognize the 207 scholar athletes that achieved a GPA of 3.25 or higher, including 43 students who received a 4.0 GPA.

The cheerleading squad was the first team to present awards due to a practice that interfered with the ceremony. Each coach spent time speaking about the team's accomplishments and player contributions. After this introduction, coaches gave three players the Coaches Award (CA), Most Improved (MI) and Most Valuable Player (MVP) distinction. Varsity coaches distributed an additional award to honor an Outstanding Senior (OS).
