Blair football demolishes Einstein in homecoming game

On Friday, Sept. 27, the Blair Blazers (4-0) and the Einstein Titans (0-4) faced off in their homecoming game with a final score of 27-2. Einstein seemed to lack drive and focus while Blair relied on teamwork to win the game.

With dark clouds approaching in the distance, both schools radiated with confidence that their team would win. The crowds roared in anticipation at the start of the high stakes game.

The first quarter started off rocky for both teams with no points being scored, but things began to look up for the Blazers during the second quarter. “The first quarter was very slow, everyone was down, but after that, the whole team we got together, had a little talk, and we just went on from there,” junior receiver Jayden Parker said.

After senior Einstein outside linebacker Alonte Sumpter was tackled and left the field with an injury, Blair began to fight harder. Blair intercepted the ball from Einstein and took the opportunity to switch to offense. 

The second quarter success didn’t end there. With just under four minutes left in the second quarter, junior running back Junior Rodriguez scored the first touchdown, setting the score at 7-0. A minute later, Parker followed with the second touchdown of the game.

The final minutes of the first half were eventful: junior kicker Teagan Willis kicked the ball 50 yards, Einstein got pushed back to the 10 yard line, and Willis skillfully scored a field goal, ending the first half with a score of 17-0.

Entering the third quarter, the Blazers continued their momentum. Einstein was on a kick return, and once again were no match for Blair’s defense. Rodriguez scored the third touchdown, putting the score at 24-0. Willis followed Rodriguez’s touchdown with a field goal, extending the lead over Einstein to 27-0.

As it rained harder, the pressure was on the Titans to score some points. Einstein took a chance and pushed the Blazers into the end zone, ultimately scoring a safety in the fourth quarter, leaving the score at 27-2. The Blazers ended the game in confidence with a 25-point lead over the Titans.

Parker recognized that it took a lot of hard work and practice to get this far. “Honestly, this week we really weren’t supposed to be doing much because of the rain, [but] we went out there in the rain anyway [and] we got extra practice,” Parker said.

This victory meant a lot to Willis after last year’s devastating homecoming game loss. “There’s been great team chemistry and we definitely showed if off tonight… This was our revenge game and we definitely took it to them,” Willis said.
