The first electives fair hosted in the main gym had something for everyone
Transitioning from having elective fairs on Blair Boulevard in years past, the 2023 Blair elective fair provided great insight for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors registering for courses starting on Dec. 18. With courses ranging from Russian History to Quantum Physics advertised, there was definitely something for everyone at the fair.
The tables around the entire gym were very engaging, however, there were some that stood out to many students. One being the child development class table that had many books and more than 4 students talking with interested students. Another great visual came from the Fine Arts department where Jacqueline Armstead-Thomas and Kelly Crowder stood in front of a visual art display from students in every visual art class.
With more STEM-oriented classes on the right side of the gym and social studies classes located on the left side of the gym, the fair was fairly easy to navigate for students of all interests.
Aside from visual aspects, the Philharmonic Orchestra lightened students' ears with their performances of Teddy Bear's Picnic, Across the Wind, Viva la Vida, and Shut up and Dance.
The event served to be a very useful event for sophomores and freshmen who tend to have more elective spaces. Sophomore Erich Ramos said, "I think it's very useful, especially for sophomores because we're new here. And unlike freshmen, we have a lot more freedom with picking our schedules."
For teachers the event went very well. Particularly, for Creative Writing teacher Leslie Appino, she was able to hand out many of her flyers for her course with the help of students in the class and the event itself. "I'm getting a lot here. And I know my students who went out… I made probably 100 copies and all of them were gone," Appino said.
As course registration is right around the corner, many students were able to either finalize or figure out what electives they are planning to take.
