Field hockey falls short in third game of season

Sept 17, BLAZER STADIUM—

The Blair filed hockey team was defeated 7-0 today by Seneca Valley after failing to capitalize on their few scoring opportunities and repeatedly losing the game in the midfield.

The team was sluggish in their play and did not reflect the ability and intensity they showed in last weeks' victory over Einstein. Louis Hoelman, who coached the team in today's match because of the absence of the regular coach Amy Miller, believes that the slow start is what cost the Blazers' the game. "We weren't intense enough to start the game. Once we were behind we were hanging our heads, and it went downhill from there," says Hoelman.

The already small team was plagued by the absence of starting senior Caroline Kutner, and injuries acquired during the game by junior attack Christina Do and senior defender Leah Passman severely impacted the Blazers' level of play.

Despite the result of the match, Hoelman believes that the game can serve as a learning experience for the girls. "I think that in flashes they played really well," he says. "But there weren't enough. They can take a lot out of this game."
