Blazer's story told

Senior Vital Akimana was profiled on the front page of the Washington Post's Metro Section on Sunday, Nov 30.

The column by Courtland Milloy focused on Akimana's escape from the Rwandan genocide in 1994 and his commitment to community and international peace.

Akimana has become an active leader not only in Blair's Diversity Workshop, but as a facilitator in community discussions and as a counselor at a Youth Building Bridges program designed by the National Conference for Community and Justice.

Instead of being simply depressed and cynical about his experience, Milloy emphasizes, Akimana has taken his past as an inspiration for change in his future.

Last year's Silver Chips profile of Akimana can be seen here. The Washington Post story can be read here.
