Rating Blazer’s Fall Sports Jerseys

As the season comes to a close, let's take a look at the fall sports jerseys, Blazer’s opinions, and my personal rating on a scale from one to ten.

What else screams school spirit like a traditional football jersey? Jayden Parker, a junior wide receiver on the football team, explains his opinions on the new jerseys and the way they help build team confidence. “I like our jerseys, they are better than the last ones and make me feel good about myself,” Parker says.

These seemingly simple jerseys have little touches, like the pitchfork on the pants or the stripes on the shoulders, that really make them stand out on the field. Plus, they are a classic: 9/10

Flag Football

Junior Theresa Fornah, a player on the flag football team, describes how she feels about the materials and the fit of the jerseys. “I like the materials, the colors, and how it's a little baggy, which I prefer over the tight-fitting uniforms,” Theresa said, “however, most of the people on the team don’t fit into the sizes, so I would add more size options.”

Flag football is a new sport, so we need to cut them some slack. The jersey and shorts, however, seem a bit basic since there isn’t anything eye-catching like a graphic or design. Despite this, it is clear that the players wearing the jerseys exude well-deserved confidence, so I’d rate this jersey an 8/10.

Cross Country

Senior cross country runner Julia Robinson thinks there is some room for improvement, specifically with the shorts. “I don't like the uniform bottoms, I think they're just unflattering and kinda ugly,” Robinson said, “it's nothing too special, but I think they're fine.”

The cross-country tank top and shorts are sleek, sensible, and stylish. Its simplistic design can be seen as chic, but it seems to lack some elements that scream ‘school spirit.’ The materials used for the jersey are not the most sustainable, and the font for the text doesn't stand out and is not flattering. Overall, it needs comfortable shorts and more captivating and distinct design elements, but it’s a decent look that I might wear: 7/10

Girls' Soccer

Junior Sophia Van Praagh laments the more simplistic look. “It’s just a T-shirt and shorts, it's nothing too extravagant or special,” Van Praagh said.

Like most of the other jerseys, the girl's soccer fit is simple, easy, and awesome. The devil is in the details, and though there aren’t many, the little blazer on the shorts adds flavor to the entire look. I wish there was more pizzazz on the actual jersey, and adding more graphics may make it stand out more. Overall I think this is a solid look: 8/10.

Boys' Soccer

Senior Lili Miller is disappointed in boys' soccer’s boring jerseys. “The jersey is doing nothing for them, it could be a little more unique,” Miller said, “they fumbled.”

Just like the Girls’ soccer jersey, the Boys’ soccer jersey is also pretty simplistic, which may be to its detriment. More could be done to make these jerseys look more interesting, like changing the outline color and thickness or altering the design to add more things like stripes or graphics to the jerseys. Overall I give this look a 7/10.

Field Hockey

Junior Eva Schwartz, a player on the field hockey team describes how she feels about their uniform.“I like it, they’re nice,” Schwartz said, “but the skirts sometimes ride up a bit, which is a bit annoying.”

This is an iconic look. The combination of the stripes, skorts, and tank top creates a classy, effortless look. The way the tank top falls over the skirt gives the players a sleek silhouette, and the design is just perfect. The placement of the number and the text work cohesively to complete the look. I give this fit a 8.5/10, cute and stylish.

Girls' Volleyball

Senior Leah Mehari talks about how much she enjoys the volleyball uniform. “I really like the long sleeves, it’s really cute,” Mehari said, “I like how the materials look and how they bolded the text with black.”

The long-sleeve top is unique compared to some of the other fall jerseys. The patterns and the text on the sleeves make these jerseys stand out. The shorts, however, are simple with little to no details on them and the sleeves are sometimes too long so I’d give this look an 8/10.

Pickleball

Junior Ada Greenfield explains how she feels the pickleball jerseys lack something. “It's very basic, plus the dimensions aren't the most flattering,” Greenfield said, “the white details clash with the black skirt and overwhelm the outfit.”

These jerseys are similar to most of the other fall jerseys in the sense that there isn’t much going on. They have a little blazer on the front and white stripes around the collar and sleeves which differentiate them from other designs. Like the Girl's Volleyball shorts, the skorts lack detail, and the material does not look the best. A way to improve this fit is to change the material to something more flashy and make the design more creative, like adding a pickleball paddle on the front. In short, I’d rate this uniform a 7/10.

Cheer & Poms

When asked about poms, senior Mira Lindsay-Folkers expresses her admiration for their sleeves and accessories.“I really like the colors, the pom-poms, and the fact that they’re long-sleeved,” Lindsay-Folkers said.

Though both the Poms and Cheer fits are distinctly different, they have very similar characteristics. They both have skirts and tops that have details such as stripes and shapes and incorporate the school colors: white, black, red, and silver. The cheer uniform especially has the best font out of all of the jerseys. Both fits are cute, charming, and most importantly stylish: 9/10.

The Blazer

The most iconic fall sport fit has to be the Blair Blazer: 10/10 no notes.

All in all, the Blair jerseys are sleek and stylish but could use some more pizazz. In general, the designs could have more details to create more depth in the design but for the most part, they are sufficient.

Make sure to support all the fall sports and keep up with games on the Blair Athletics Website.
