Senior recognized for engineering
Northrop Grumman announced 24 winners of its $10,000 engineering scholarship competition last Wednesday, May 4. Blair senior Amelia Sagoff was recognized as one of the winners.
This is the third year that Northrop Grumman has held its statewide competition, which awards a total of $240,000 to seniors in Maryland. Each county, including Baltimore city, has a regional winner. In order to be eligible, students have to be a legal resident of Maryland, have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and have scored at least an 1100 on the previous SAT test. In addition, candidates for the scholarship have to plan on becoming a full-time, engineering student at an accredited college or university. Eligible students then have to write a 500-word essay on their career goals.
According to the Northrop Grumman scholarship web site, the company hopes to "motivate some of the brightest and best students - with a background and interest in math and science - to consider the engineering professions." The scholarship is part of Northrop Grumman's Electronic Systems sector, which specializes in defense and commercial electronics and systems.
Sagoff plans to attend Harvard University this upcoming fall.
