Blair wins in close match

OCT 21, NELSON H. KOBREN MEMORIAL GYMNASIUM-

Blair came into tonight's match against Springbrook with a dominant offense and very strong defense, taking an early lead and winning the first game 25-16. Blair's early control tapered off during the second game, when the Blue Devils fought back with a powerful offense of their own. Despite numerous tense, lengthy points, the Blazers kept the score very close, and in the end were able to edge out Springbrook with a score of 25-16, 13-25, 25-20, and 25-23.

The Blazers faced stiff competition against Springbrook, as the Blue Devils used their excellent blocking ability and service game to keep Blair's offense in check. Nevertheless, Blair fought back with impressive reflexes, key digs, and a much improved service game. Seniors Lauren Wong and Amanda Hsiung each served out crucial rallies which contributed greatly to Blair's victory.

The first game began well. Blair pulled ahead to a five-point lead before Springbrook rallied and decreased the lead to 11-8. Once Blair regained possession, Hsiung served out six straight points, including two aces, and gave Blair a 17-12 lead that Springbrook could not overtake.

In the second game, shaky defense forced Blair into an early deficit. As Springbrook put more and more points on the board, Blair was left in the dust, unable to hold possession for more than three points at a time. Springbrook clinched the win after a strong spike which Blair was unable to return.

The third and fourth games were extremely close. Neither team was ever more than five points ahead throughout the two games. However, Junior Tina Yang came up with several key digs, and Wong continued serving well, allowing Blair to defeat Springbrook in both games and take the match, their second victory at home.
