Blair places well in Girls Competition
On Tuesday, Day 2 of the Maryland Indoor Track and Field Championship at PG Sportsplex, Blair's Indoor Track Team faced tough competition from historically successful schools such as Eleanor Roosevelt and C.H. Flowers. However, the Girls team managed to secure a fifth place finish in the Girls 4A/3A Championship. The Boys team unfortunately did not place.
The girls placed fifth with a total score of 24 points. They came in behind Eleanor Roosevelt with 93 points, C.H. Flowers with 48 points, Western with 26 points, and Broadneck with 25 points. C.H. Flowers and Eleanor Roosevelt also found success in the boys competition, where they placed third and fourth, respectively.
Yet again, the freshmen Sinclair twins were the driving force behind Blair's success. Halsey and Ashlyn Sinclair earned all 24 points the Blazers received during the competition, and dominated in several key races.
Halsey Sinclair came in seventh in the girls 800m run early in the meet with a time of 2:27.11. She only improved as the meet continued, placing second in the 1600m run at 5:11.58, beat out only by Lauren Centrowitz of Broadneck. Halsey's biggest success, however, came in the 3200m run, which she won with a stellar time of 11:27.84.
Ashlyn Sinclair also performed well throughout the day. She came in third in the 1600m run with a time of 5:15.26. In the 500m run, Ashlyn finished tenth with a time of 1:25.14.
The 2003/2004 Indoor Track season has been a successful one for the Blazers. They ran against tough teams in tough races but always managed to do well, and with both Sinclairs returning next year, the outlook for Blair Track is extremely bright.
